"I met Dr. Gelbard under unusual and at the time dire circumstances. I was critically ill and didn't know it. On Monday morning, I was taken by ambulance to Lenox Hill Hospital and short distance away. One of my physicians had called her to expect me and in about 15 minutes she had assembled a team of doctors who were expecting me. When I arrived, blood work, xrays and the like were ordered and the results were available very quickly. It turned out I had a life threatening lung infection, sepsis and other grave illnesses. My life was in jeopardy.
Dr. Gelbard arranged to admit me to the ICU department and watched over me as well as contacting one of the best thoracic surgeons, the Chief of Thoracic Surgery at the hospital, as well as other doctors with their own specialities. I am happy to say that my 10 day stay at the hospital, even with being on a respirator for five days, turned out well. After being treated and having minimally invasive surgery, I bounced back quickly thanks to the quick thinking and attention I had. Dr. Gelbard had so much to do with my recovery.
She is clearly one of the most talented, intelligent and compassionate physicians I have ever met. Whenever I have mentioned her name to other doctors, their eyes light up.
